120/365. Lights.

Corey and I disagreed initially on outside light fixtures. I caved, and I'm glad. Loving these colors/textures together.

4/18/10 House Progress!

I'm supposed to be on bedrest, but it was a beautiful day...and to be honest it was getting might darn boring laying around. I know I don't have to do it long, and people have had it much worse, but I almost think that makes it more difficult in some ways. Plus, it's still resting if you're the passenger on a nice long Sunday drive, isn't it? It just isn't in bed...

So hey, look! We have siding! Well...everywhere but the lower front. There will be some stone stuff that goes along the bottom 2 feet or so of the house so I think they are waiting to put the rest of that siding on until they get the stone stuff in. I love the green we chose, and I think it looks nice with the white trim.

The builder forgot to leave the key hidden for us, so we didn't get to go walk around inside this time, but the walls are all painted now too. Rumor has it the flooring and cabinets get in either tomorrow or the next day so they'll get that going too.

How about a little New-House Hurl-O-Cam to brighten your day?

So we got this new Flip video camera, which is awesome - but this was my first use of it and clearly I have some things to learn...like moving slowly if I have to move, otherwise it's a little dizzying. Whoops.

Anyway...here is a motion-sickness inducing tour of our new house now that it has walls. In the future I will try to keep my stupid voice and comments down to a minimum...

And here is a video (with similar motion-sickness inducing qualities) of the outside and our neighborhood.

Some things we've picked for the house so far...

The exterior color is a medium/dark sage green called "Cypress" and will have a white trim.  All of the other houses built so far are some shade of brown or gray with some shade of brown or gray trim.  We had to be different.  There will be something like 2 feet of stone/brick that goes around the base of the house too, but we haven't chose that yet.  Here is an example of cypress with white (obviously NOT our house):

We decided we didn't want any carpet so our major upgrade was to hardwood floors throughout.  We chose Brazilian Cherry.  It's not quite as dark in person as the picture.  It looks like this:

Our cabinets will be a dark cherry color.  This picture is of the same cabinets but in some other place (with some ugly appliances):

We also upgraded the counters to meganite.  It's better than laminate, but isn't quite granite.  I guess it's basically a high performance acrylic and other stuff in a language I don't really speak but I know this:  it's pretty, it has a kind of a stone feel, and according to their website it helps "contribute to healthy, sustainable, and safe environments..." blah blah blah.  Healthy and sustainable is good.  We chose the "south beach boulder" design.  Below is an example of it, but in person those big bright speckles are not remotely that noticeable.  It most looks like white stone.

As for appliances, we found a couple sweet deals on french door stainless steel fridges at the Sears scratch and dent outlet, so we'll be getting something from there.  Otherwise we're getting these:

Over-range microwave:

Dishwasher:

That's all we've got picked so far, but it's quite a bit!
