Weird Lyrica dreams #2

Not as vivid (or disturbing) as the first night, but still weird.

The first dream was that my friend Jenica got a new camera and I couldn't stop playing with it and taking 8 bazillion pictures.  Then I started plotting ways to either return my new camera or steal hers.

The next one was about hairspray.  I was getting ready to go somewhere and had done an amazing job on my hair (which is unusual).  I was spraying it with hairspray and it wasn't working.  So I went to Walgreen's and was running around spraying EVERY kind of hairspray on my hair like a lunatic.  None of them were working and security dragged me out of the store.

Sorry for the weird, boring post but I rarely dream so this is kind of exciting for me.

I still owe you all some weird Portland stories.  Coming soon.

Until then, I hope you all had a great Christmas and are doing something fun to bring in the new year.  I think it is going to be a good one.  I'll probably be all weird and reflective sometime late tonight (if I drink) or tomorrow.

Disturbing Lyrica Dream #1

I went back to the doctor yesterday because even though I was falling asleep faster and getting more quality sleep and waking up with less fibro pain, I could feel that none of my clothes were fitting and I wasn't a fan of not having much choice but 10-11 hours of sleep.  I realize that for a lot of you, 10-11 hours sounds like heaven.  I like it too...on the one day of the week I never need to accomplish anything (Sunday).  The rest of the time it is just WAY TOO MUCH.

Anyway, he gave me two sample bottles of Lyrica and is starting me at one 50mg pill twice a day.  Well, last night I was spacing and took 2 of them before bed instead of one.  About an hour later I started feeling high.  An hour after that...I felt REALLY high so I went to bed.  When I laid down, I wasn't particularly sleepy, but I was very relaxed and to be honest I couldn't really seem to feel my limbs.  It took awhile to fall asleep, but I didn't really mind.  Go figure.

Around 4 am, I woke up from a very bizarre and disturbing dream.  I'd read that Lyrica can cause all these things so I wasn't exactly surprised.  At least not until I got a drink of water and laid back down and realized what was going on in my dream.

Myself and another woman I knew (not sure who exactly) were somehow kidnapped somewhere in Africa.  They took our clothes and we were locked in this giant dirty drug-lord mansion.  Another woman there told us to hurry and handed us huge towels and sheets to wrap around us.  We soon found out why.  The more layers of clothes we wore, the more difficult it would be for them to rape us and they would give up because they were lazy.  So my dream went on over the span of a few days where we were raped, beaten, and even pissed on repeatedly.  It became a part of life.  I made friends with the other women there and we just went through every single day hoping someone would come for us.

As if that wasn't disturbing enough...

In the dream I didn't care about what was happening to us.  I think it was some kind of bizarre coping mechanism.  Sometimes we were even laughing about it.  WTF?!?!

There was some more detail that I remember but it's so graphic and disturbing I am going to leave it out.

I've heard that the wacky side effects of Lyrica eventually fade out.  I don't mind bizarre dreams but that was definitely a bit much.  I was hesitant to take one this morning in case it makes me high again but I did anyway since I have several hours between now and work.

How to fart in a moving crowd: PDX edition.

Step 1: Walk faster until you find a couple of old men walking together.
Step 2: Get right behind them.
Step 3: Let her rip.
Step 4: Make a weird face and pretend they aren't moving fast enough for you.
Step 5: Pass them and disappear.

Say Cheese!

Good times at PDX

For those of you not in the know, we headed to the Milwaukee airport a little over 48 hours ago, San Diego bound.

Where did we end up Saturday night?  Portland, Oregon.

Where are we now - 2 days later? Portland, Oregon.

Where is my luggage? Good question.  I'll let you know when I find out.

As most of you who read this blog know, I was born and raised in Portland until age 16.  98% of my family lives here, including my dad.  In the span of about 36 hours in this town, I have some awesome stories.  Holiday travel nightmares and my dad's side of the family never disappoint.

For now I just thought I'd check in.  The stories are going to have to come later, either one-by-one or in a massive wall of words (complete with photographic evidence!).

Our current flight was set to take off at 10:45.  Then 12:00.  Then 12:50.  Now they tell us 1:33.  If are REALLY bored (or a deranged psycho stalker), go to Alaska Air's flight status and enter flight number 574.

In the last 2 hours I've had 2 dogs and 2 babies barf on the carpet within 5 feet of me.

Think of all the fun stuff that could be lingering on this floor.

I have the good seat on the floor next to the window.  I'm sure I'm catching the syph as we speak (write, whatever).

Anyway.

Cross your fingers that we (and my luggage) get to San Diego sometime today.  I could really use some fresh chonies.

Jessica just offered to email me some of these.  Best Christmas evah!

They grow up so fast

How adorable is she?  That is my oldest "little" sister who is not so little anymore.  I can't wait to see her this weekend!

Dear (other) high school (sport) coach,

(again)

You are still an arrogant prick.  I don't know if you quit your job at the old high school or if you were fired but I don't care.  I thought for sure I was going to be free of you this year but no, there you were...coaching at a different high school in the conference.  You don't seem to have a lot of fans.  Even your assistant coaches seem to hate you a little.  I hope one of them punches you in your smug douchebag face.  For the sake of your players, I hope nothing serious ever happens to them after you refuse to let the AT do their job.  Congrats on your colossal loss tonight.

xoxo,
J.

4th and 1

Sorry for the not-so-clever football reference.

I'm talking about 4 semesters down, 1 to go!  I finished my final assignment last night and can forget about school for a solid 6 or so weeks.  I'm one 6 credit semester away from my masters degree and can. not. wait.  As much as I'd like to say that I will be able to forget about school forever, I can't shake the feeling that I may end up back there somehow to learn a new trade that fits in a little better with the family-friendly work schedule I would like to have.  But, then again...if I go back to school that would probably mean we'd have to put off the family thing even longer.  So we'll see I guess.

There I go jumping back on the Debbie Downer train again.  I can't seem to stop doing that. No matter how many things I am happy or excited about, I manage find twice as many things to bring me down.  I don't know what my problem is.

Tonight we are going to Corey's company Christmas party.  We had a lot of fun last year and are doing the same thing this time.  It was a dinner/booze cruise on Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River.  The food was good and the view was amazing.  I'm hoping that the boat will make fewer attempts to break through the frozen over parts of the water.  I'm not in the mood for any Titanic moments.  After the dinner cruise last year we ended up bar hopping on Water Street, but the people we were with live closer to Madison and still had to drive home.  This year we live closer to downtown and have invited people to stay over if they need to.  Anyway, I'm off to clean the house a little more just in case.

Bitching with bullet points

  • I REALLY wanted...I'll even say NEEDED a snow day today.  It was looking so promising.  WTF?
  • I've had my final "exam" open to me for 2.5 weeks now and I haven't done it.  Hence the NEED for a snow day.
  • Last wednesday was supposed to be the last time my systematic review group was meeting for the semester.  Now we are "voluntarily" meeting tomorrow.  WHY?  Can we please cancel this?
  • Old Navy performance fleece stuff is only like $8 right now and I want about 10 of everything.  This is not financially possible.
  • I still haven't started the laundry that I planned on doing Sunday.
  • The laundry I did 2 weekends ago is still sitting here on the couch.  Folded.
  • I am lazy.
  • I need another cup of coffee.
  • I just wanted to bitch and moan with bullet points.
  • kthxbai.

December 7, 2008

I'm going to brag about my mom for a minute or 10.

I realized that it's been a LONG time since I transferred any of my pictures over to my external hard drive and that my picture folders are all in chaos.  I found this pic of my mom - I think it is from about a year ago - when she got to fly in a fighter jet.

You see, my mom is a top government sales person for a major wireless company, and all of her clients are the USMC, DoD, Homeland Security....those type of folks.  She gets to do awesome things on a regular basis because 1) She is badass at her job, and 2) She has badass clients.  Recently she was able to go fire military weapons on a marine corps base in southern California.  She also gets special passes to watch the annual Miramar Air Show and hang out (and eat) with all the generals and other high ranking officers in their special fancy-pants tent.  The Blue Angels pilots even come in there after they are done flying.

Another completely awesome thing...

My mom might be winning a trip to Rome sometime in 2009.  If my step-dad doesn't want to go (which is VERY likely, oddly enough) guess who is next in line to be her guest? Yep.  ME.  M-E.  That would rock my world.  She sent me a link to the hotel we'd be staying at and it looks AMAZING.  I've always wanted to go there and we'd have so much fun together.  My mom and I aren't very far apart in age - I'm 30, she is 47.  Plus, my step-dad probably wouldn't appreciate all the cool history and stuff there is to see in Rome.

And how could I forget get this little morsel of goodness?!?

A few days ago she was invited to go to all of Obama's inauguration festivities!  Sure, she's a republican (as am I) and probably didn't vote for him (but...*gasp*...I did - sshhh...don't tell!  Hi Aunt Jodi!), but so what?  It's HISTORY IN THE MAKING, people!  Who passes that up?  NO ONE.

I wonder if she'll need a date for that one...

Anyway, I will end this post with a sweet pic of my mom and I straight out of the 80's:

PS.  Happy birthday Grandma Joyce (even though you don't read this and probably don't know what the hell a blog is)!

December 6, 2008

Welcome back!

Hi. Good to see you!

I know I've mentioned that the only thing I am able to fully commit to is Corey, but I swear this will be the last time I move my blog. I moved it because I'm lazy and because I love the way that all google programs are streamlined together and make everything super easy to use. Plus, I like that I have more freedom to re-decorate!

My next project is moving all my pictures to Picasa...another google program.

Anyway, change your links/reader/whatever else you use over to http://happiercows.blogspot.com/ . Thanks!

Birthday Flowers

I had to take a picture of my birthday flowers from Melissa now that they have filled out a little. Now I just need to find a way to keep the cats from eating them!

Life begins at 30?

I guess we'll find out!

I spent my birthday at work at girl's basketball and just got home at about 10pm and now I'm home working on homework for my class in the morning. Happy birthday to me!

I got some great cards, a gift certificate for LobsterGram (mmm!) and Melissa sent me a beautiful bouquet of tulips. I will take a picture of them tomorrow when they've had some time to drink and open up. Corey and I will go out to dinner this weekend for a belated celebration since we both have a bunch of busy days this week.

Sorry for my extended absences - I've got a couple things to finish up this semester and then I'm all yours. I've got some fun things coming my way in the next couple weeks...going to San Diego for Christmas, a new camera coming soon, new blog address, and a few other random things. I've also got some pictures to show off from the last couple months because I've been such a huge slacker.
Before I go, here is a little "me" throughout the first 30 years. I have been a lot of places, done a lot of things, and met some AWESOME people along the way!

(Sorry I look extra weird in some of them...I had a hard time resizing them to the right proportions!)

Sweet contest!

I learned about this contest to win a Wii Fit through a friend's blog. I've wanted a Wii for a long time now but Corey doesn't see the point because he has a PS3. The key word there is "HE" has a PS3. Not to mention that PS3 DOESN'T HAVE WII FIT! I would love to win this more than I can describe. I can't just "work out". I won't stick to it. I can't commit to any certain times/days of the week for a class for a recreational team because of my job.

Right now I am back up to a weight that is less than 10lbs under the weight I was at my heaviest. I know I'm not obese, but I'm definitely overweight and more out of shape than I've ever been. I'm about to turn 30. I wake up every day feeling like a got hit by a car/bus/train (that is my pain scale these days) with fibromyalgia crap and exercise and yoga are supposed to help that too.

Plus, I REALLY need to lose some weight and gain some better habits. I'd like to do this before we have kids, too. The weight itself is just a number, I know...but it's a number I'm so scared to see again. I remember how I felt at that weight. I remember how low my self esteem was and the stress and depression surrounding it too. So even though I don't look terrible, I associate that weight with a terrible time in my life. One I don't want to see and feel again. Ever. I envy those people who are overweight and know it and still exude so much confidence. I had that once too...but it was when I was in shape. It's different for everyone I suppose.

Woooo...sorry that got a little Debbie Downer-ish.

November 15, 2008

What?!?! It's probably dirty anyway...

For a little over a year now, Corey and his brothers and I have spent many late nights laughing hysterically at an infomercial for a colon cleansing kit. If you've seen the one I'm talking about then you KNOW it's hilarious. Anyway, we've always joked about one of us taking one for the team and testing it out. A lot of time has gone by, infomercial unseen, no speak of 48 inch turds...

Until now.

Corey has ordered matching kits of Colonix (different, supposedly better brand than the infomercial...) and they came in the mail yesterday. The website has a lot of attractive claims of the benefits and what it is supposed to do for you coupled with a lot of graphic, unattractive photos of the crap (literally and figuratively) that you are getting rid of by doing a colon cleanse.

Let me tell you that I'm not excited about taking a 4 foot dump. But...if even 1 or 2 of the claims made by the "testimonials" on the website come true, I will be happy I did it. Don't worry though...I won't take pictures.

Plus...I think that a colon cleanse is what kick-started the energy and motivation to work out and eat better for my Aunt who lost 100 pounds over the span of a year last year. I'd like some energy and motivation. Have you read my other posts in the last year and half? Energy is one of the major things I lack. Chronic fatigue is something I fight with all day. Every day. Chronically...go figure.

And my aunt? She looks smokin' hot. I want to look smokin' hot. I can't do that without energy to work out or a desire to eat better. Maybe seeing 4 feet of toxic shit is motivation? I am willing to find out. There aren't many things I'm not willing to try at least once.

If it doesn't work, oh well. Corey paid for it!

If it does work, I will gladly wave goodbye to a few pounds and 30 years of shit build-up. I am thankful I won't have to see what comes out of Corey - aka. The Man Who Hates Vegetables. 31 years of meat and potatoes is going to be...well...I don't have a word for it. I can promise you it is likely to be an EXTREME form of NASTY.

So yeah. I won't talk about this every day, but don't be shocked if I mention it from time to time.

On that note, have a good weekend. We're going to Applebee's.

Happy crapping!

Therapy Thursday

I am starting to feel like I'm on the brink of crazyflakes.

Who the F hits the snooze button every 5 minutes for TWO AND A HALF HOURS?!?! Especially after about 9 hours of sleep. This is an almost daily occurrence now. On a good day it's 1.5 hours of snooze. Today was a new record.

Why do I talk/think about all kinds of stuff that I'm going to get done and plan to be really productive the next day and then can never bring myself to do any of it?

Is any medication going to help my insomnia? I'm not laying there stressing about anything in particular. I'm just...laying there. The stuff I'm taking now seems to be helping with my quality of sleep and a little with the fibromyalgia (I wake up feeling like I only got hit by a mini-cooper instead of a bus), but making the insomnia worse.

I don't feel anxious. I don't feel depressed. I'm actually less stressed than normal these days.

So what the hell?

November 6, 2008

...and then I went all vasovagal 'n shit...

So yeah...

I had to go to the doctor this morning for to get my blood drawn to check my cholesterol and thyroid. Walked in, felt fine yadda yadda. I was just telling the nurse that my veins are kind of difficult but she seemed confident. So she goes for my right arm...it rolls and she misses...digs around, can't get it. Switches arms, finds a good one...WHOOPS...there it goes...starts digging...finally gets it. I still felt fine this whole time. I open my hand and relax my arm while she's taking the blood out and I start feeling kind of hot and only a little light headed.

She's done, I ask if I can sit there for a minute...(sure! do you want some juice? sure!)...she leaves and I start feeling a little worse. I drink the juice, still don't feel too bad. She tells me she'll be back in a second because she has to grab something in the next room. I start feeling suddenly REALLY dizzy and sick. I remember deciding that I needed to go lay down on the table 2 feet away from me.

Next thing I know, I'm on the floor and there are people saying my name and asking if I'm ok. I was halfway under the counter that I was sitting next to and my head hurt. Apparently when I passed out I hit my head on the counter on my way down.

A doctor came in and checked me out and my head was sore and my neck was getting really tight and sore. He made me go get a neck x-ray and drink a soda.

X-ray was fine. I feel a lot better but have a headache and my neck kills. Diagnosis: another vasovagal reaction. This is my 5th now - but it's been a looong time.

Oh! And also when the nurse was leaving the room to grab whatever she forgot, I was reading a text message from a friend asking if I was pregnant. I was closing my phone as I was about to go over to the table but passed out instead.

Goodtimes.
And no, I'm not pregnant.

Luckily I am off of work today so I am hanging out on the couch. I did still feel the need to go wander around Menards to buy a rake on my way home though.

I was supposed to give blood at my friend's blood drive tomorrow, but that is not a good idea for me (or anyone involved, probably) now.
So before you freak out about having blood drawn or donating blood (PLEASE GO DONATE BLOOD! IT'S IMPORTANT!) or anything like that, let me tell you the circumstances of my other 4 vasovagal episodes.

First time: Age 17, I went to give blood for the first time, they pricked my finger and I passed out.

Second time: Age 21, wisdom tooth removed...was sitting there 10-20 minutes after it was done. I was fine, laughing and talking with the nurse, then (according to her) I turned about 6 different colors and passed out.

Third time: Age 22, on a field exercise in the army staying in a building in the woods. I was sitting on the stoop outside talking to Corey and a friend of mine. Got up to go inside, felt dizzy suddenly and told myself I'd make it to my bunk. Instead I passed out and hit the fire extinguisher bracket on the wall, the fire extinguisher on the floor and then landed on the concrete floor with blood gushing from my head. I got a helicopter ride out of that one. no real explaination for it other than *maybe* due to medication I'd only been on for a few days. It would have been much cooler if that German hospital would have given me a room instead of kept me in the hallway for 3 days. That experience is only balanced out by the fact that the German paramedic in the back of the helicopter with me was HOT.

Fourth time: Dentist office, wasn't numb enough (my mom and I both take a TON of novocaine to numb up) and started freaking out. The dentist stopped and let me sit up for a second to wipe my eyes while he got some more novocaine - passed out.

This time: Also *might* have something to do with new medication that I've been on for 2 days. Or the digging around for my sheisty veins with a needle. Or both.

I've donated blood probably 6 or 7 times, had numerous blood draws, and have 3 tattoos and have been fine (or mostly ok) for all of them. I also see and wipe up a lot of blood and open wounds in my line of work. No big deal - actually I'm kind of fascinated by it (which you might find disturbing - sorry!).

New names, new games.

I've been thinking.

I know what you are thinking...you just said "Uh oh..." to yourself didn't you? Yeah. Thought so.

Anyway...I started this blog in June 2007 when we first moved from Fresno, CA to our old apartment in Milwaukee, WI (2191.99 miles apart according to mapquest).

It's been almost a year and a half now. We're not new here anymore, we have a new address, I even have a new name. Suddenly the mileage doesn't seem so fitting.

Since I currently lack creativity, does anyone have any ideas?

The web address would stay the same, but the title at the top would change. Help!

In other news...the fall sports season is finally over at work. I only worked an hour and a half today, have Tuesday through Thursday off, and don't have to show up again until Friday night at 5:30! An awesome and welcome break after this extra-busy and crazy-as-hell football/volleyball/boy's soccer/girl's swim/cross country season. Next up: boy's & girl's basketball/hockey/boy's swim/wrestling. It's all downhill from here.

In even bigger and better news... Tomorrow this God forsaken election will be over and I can not wait. I'm so tired of this crap. How can it be so exciting and so annoying at the same time?

Like babies? Like photos? Like photos OF babies? Want to know for SURE that your vote counts?

My friend (and wedding photographer) is having a photo contest. I know several of the baby-mama's of the babies in question, so I haven't decided where my vote is going yet. Since many of you DON'T know these babies and baby-mama's I think YOU should go vote! It will only take a moment of your time and I promise that you will not be disappointed in what you see!

False alarm! Happy dance!

It's not cancerous tissue. They couldn't tell what it was, just what it was not. This is great news!

I still wonder what it is, and I still want it gone, but at least it's not cancer.

How great would it be to dance like a dork ALL OVER THE WORLD?

October 28, 2008

What is on my mind T-8.5 hours from boob-mashing:

(Prepare for a little irrationality)

What if it's cancer and I have to have a mastectomy? Where do they put the boob? Will it be in a jar somewhere a la Grey's Anatomy coffee table kidney?

What if I have to have chemo? Will this affect me having kids later? Will I have to save some eggs in case? What if I have to have a kid now if I ever want to be able to have them? What if my shit doesn't work in the first place? Am I going to find that out soon too? Will we even have the capacity to make these kinds of decisions right now if we have to? Clearly the very little Oprah I watch is still way too much.

If it's nothing, will they take the lump out anyway? Because I want it gone. Will that leave a scar? It's ok if it does, I'm just curious.

Will it affect breastfeeding if I can ever have kids? Would I have even been able to breastfeed in the first place? Will I ever have the chance to find that out?

If it's removed, can I see it?

What if I can't work for awhile? What will happen to my job? What will my boss do? I don't get sick days or vacation or anything. There is no one else to work for me. How will I pay my bills during that time? Will I fall behind in grad school?

Am I a fucking breast-cancer ignorant douchebag?

blah blah blah.

:::insert incoherent Charlie Brown adult's voice here:::

If it's cancer...I'm SO kicking cancer's ass.

If it's not...well...then YAY!

Here is why what I do is important:

I heard a little of this on the news, but I'm reposting this article from Scott's (my former athletic training program director) blog.

Originally posted in ESPN's Outside the Lines:

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL DEATHS
Tad Gormley

For 16-year-old Jaquan Waller, his passion for football ended in tragedy last month. After just two carries in a high school football game, the junior running back from Greenville, North Carolina collapsed on the sideline and was declared brain dead the following morning. This after being cleared to play following a head injury in practice two days prior. Waller died from complications of second impact syndrome (SIS), when a second concussion occurs before the first one has completely healed. Sunday on Outside the Lines, David Amber examines the need for Certified Athletic Trainers to protect high school football players.

Also from ESPN: Outside the Lines: Second Impact Syndrome

I had the exact same thoughts as Scott but he put it much better, so I'm copying his words:

The best comment I hear in this video was the one at the end - If you can't afford to have a certified athletic trainer on site then you shouldn't have the sport." We would not allow the players to participate if we could not afford helmets - would we?

If we "the taxpayer" are going to pay JaQuan Waller's mother a couple million dollars (like she deserves yet will not be sufficient to replace her son) then we could have paid 35 years of an athletic trainer's salary at $57,000 per year. And just imagine, that ATC would be on site for other injuries also.

I wish I could have this video on a constant loop in my athletic training room. With every kid that I keep out of practice for a head injury, no matter how large or small, I get the same whining and begging and bargaining. Then, as they pout, I explain Second Impact Syndrome (the short, scary version) and what do I get? A blank stare. Blink. Blink blink blink. Blink. It might as well be Bambi staring into the headlights of an oncoming Buick.

"So can I play tomorrow then?"

"No."

It's still blowing my mind that a FIRST RESPONDER was given the power to return an athlete to play at all - ESPECIALLY after a head injury. WTF?

October 22, 2008

I need to live out loud.

I have had this master plan to become a better (or at least more regular) blogger and to finally do that now 3 months late post about our wedding and to get all my thoughts off my chest and out of my head where they have been marinating lately. I'm not usually one to keep my life-happenings secret or quiet or to keep my opinion to myself. But that is what has been happening. Things have been sitting there...marinating. Turning me into Debbie Downer or at least a heaping pile of stress.

I bring this up because I was getting caught up on a message board I have with some friends here and there was a discussion about how long you should (or they decided to) wait before telling people about their pregnancy. There was a lot of 6-8 weeks, even more 10-12...some reasons were to make sure everything was ok, it would affect their job if people knew, or a flurry of other very good reasons - like keeping their privacy as long as possible.

My answer to the question, because I know myself: I am willing to bet that I will tell the entire world the second I find out.

Not to mention I would be ridiculously excited and nervous and a ton of other emotions that I would never be able to hide. I know some of you are starting to think I might be trying to tell you I'm pregnant. I'm not.

But...

I do have something going on that I've been really trying hard not to talk about because I don't know anything yet. I'm a little bit afraid that saying something about it so publicly before knowing anything makes me seem a little attention-whorish. I can assure you that that is not the case. I'm a very open person about the things I've gone through in my life - they are why I am the person I am now, no matter how bad or good. By suddenly not being open, I feel like I'm hiding things from people I care about or that might care about me and like I have to watch what I say and keep track of who I've been open with and who I have not.

That has to stop now. It's not "me."

Plus, I have something that I have a lot of thoughts about and absolutely do not want to torment any one specific person with my paranoia and worst case scenario plans for the future. I'd rather just vent them here and let you all quietly think I'm crazy.

About a week and a half ago, I found a lump in my left boob (breast? Sounds so...proper. I'm hardly what you'd call proper). It's good sized. It's not rock hard, but it's pretty dense. Say you cut an egg in half lengthwise...it's about that size, and seems to be attached to my chest wall deep in the...boob.

I scrambled to get recs to an OB/GYN with my new married chick medical insurance and saw my shiny new doctor 2 days ago on Monday. She said that with my family history and my age, there is "a good chance" that it is nothing. But...it is significant enough that it definitely needs more testing. She sent me to radiology with orders for a mammogram and ultrasound.

Wednesday, Oct 29th, ass-crack of dawn. That is my hot date with the boob-smasher.

Am I scared? Yes. Terrified, actually. I don't scare easily...but cancer? Cancer is fucking scary.

I know there are a lot of (Ok, maybe only a few...) other things that it could possibly be, and I'm hoping and praying for those. But...I can't stop myself from the "what if's" - it's what I do. It's how I prepare for the worst. It's also how I set myself up for a pleasant surprise when it's something better than the worst.

For those of you who know me and are learning about this for the first time, I'm sorry you heard about it this way, but at least it's still the early clueless phase. So now you know as much as I do and I can stop acting like I don't have anything freaking me out.

I feel better already.

1/3 of the way there - or is it 3.5/5 (70%)?

Until I'm done with grad school.

It's 1/3 of the way there because for our non-thesis (systematic review) project, there are 3 milestones - one of those is complete as of today. We had to present our research question, proposal, timeline, and background information on systematic reviews and meta-analysis to a physical therapy clinic that we are bringing up to speed on evidence-based practice.

It's 3.5/5 (70%) because my masters program is set up to take 5 semesters and I only have 1.5 to go.

Thank God. It is a Lutheran university, after all.

I'd say lets not get lost in numbers or statistics, but between a whole lotta statistics and eleventy thousand research papers is where you will find me from now until May.

...although...

That would imply that I actually study and do things like I am supposed to. No...I wait until the last minute. That first milestone (the presentation today)? Yeah - I put that together from around eleven to midnight last night. What? That's not how people serious about grad school do things? Shit.

I wrote out enough to be thorough and for my part to only take about 10 minutes. After about 12 minutes, I had to start summarizing because I clearly underestimated my ability to discuss something as boring as systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Anyway, it's over and it went very well. I'd like to thank that big-gulp sized vanilla latte with an extra shot of crack that I chugged on my way to the clinic. Feeling like you're going to have a heart attack is distracting when you're about to do something a little nerve-wracking. Try it! You'll like it!

I've been avoiding you

So...I never wrote that post about our rehearsal dinner or the bachelor party, and I haven't written about our wedding either.

Since I haven't done that, I've felt like it would be wrong for me to write about anything else...but that's pretty dumb too.

Long story short: Our wedding was so much fun and hands down the best day of my life so far. It was AWESOME to see everyone and have so many of our friends and family in one pace, everyone had a great time, we didn't spend a ton of money, and we are FINALLY married!

Sometimes, I hate the way I look in so many of the pictures - I make some really stupid expressions. But then I realize...the reason I look so goofy sort of makes it not goofy at all. The reason? I was laughing and smiling (and crying) pretty much ALL day. So the reason there aren't a lot of pictures of me making a normal face is because it was hard to find a moment where I wasn't having THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE! I think that's a pretty good reason.

I have a ton of pictures from the awesome photographers (and the million pictures our families took) that I will surely bother you with periodically in my blog posts.

So since I'm here now, I guess I'll make good on my promise for a few pics from the rehearsal dinner and the bachelor party:

The rehearsal dinner was just a casual get-together in Corey's mom's backyard and some pizza. It was nice for people to meet and catch up and relax a little before the wedding chaos really began. We also got a lot of the set-up taken care of.

In case you can't tell, my rehearsal bouquet was the Bud Light I was drinking and the tiger lilly I picked from the side of the house. Klassy, huh?

My awesome bridesmaids:

The sash I tried to put on Corey. He wasn't having it.

I am a little annoyed right now...most of these are not the pictures I was looking for - I am missing some. Not sure how that is possible...

Anyway, here are a few from the bachelor party:

That's enough for now. I need to go finish watching my ass get stomped in both of my fantasy football leagues. I'm trying to be less of a stranger, I swear. In my defense, I've had a LOT going on.
