One month from today

...we are getting married. Finally! It only took 8 years or so.

I have so much crap to do still.

And school starts again next week.

I'm screwed.

JUST like old times.

2:30 in the morning...guess who isn't sleeping?

Bingo! Me!

(obviously)

So uhhh...yeah. I haven't reordered my ambien because our mail was supposed to start forwarding and it would get sent back to the VA. I meant to call there earlier this week to change our address and then order it, but no. I forgot. You can bet that I'm kicking myself for it right now.

I was getting through the not falling asleep by taking my (former) usual 2 benadryl, which took awhile but was apparently helping at least a little - with the sleep AND waking up without allergy snot plugging up my brains. Of course...today it got packed in a box somewhere and I wasn't able to take any before bed.

So here I sit.

I may or may not have poured myself some sort of alcoholic beverage in an attempt to bring on the sleep.

Sometimes, at work...

...I overhear the *real* story of how it happened.

Athletic training is not for the innocent, weak, shy, or easily embarrassed.

So did I mention we're moving?

I think I might have left that out.

So hey...we're moving!

We've taken 6 loads or so in Corey's truck over the last week and have pretty much everything but the big stuff out of here. Remember Operation Couch? In case you are new here, it was a fascinating 6 part series the day I recruited 3 of my undergrad students to come hoist my new couch up over the balcony of our second floor apartment.

Anyway...now we have to reverse it and get the couch back out. Good times!

We have a u-haul, 2 friends, and my future little brother-in-law reserved for Sunday to help us with it and to get the rest of our shit out of this place!

I am really excited about our new place. It's the lower part of a duplex that my friend owns. Her and her husband (and super adorable baby that I watch 3 days a week!) just bought a new house, so we are moving in. It's in a good (and pretty) neighborhood right across the street from a gorgeous catholic church, and 2 doors down from an equally gorgeous lutheran church. It's got shiny new appliances and cabinets, hardwood floors, and pretty pretty built in woodwork. And a cute little yard in the front and back. And a basement! And it's even got 2 little stained glass windows. This is like Christmas x 100 for me.

Did I mention that the street is lined with big trees? I dream of things like this.

Ridiculous, no?

I'm sure the honeymoon phase of our new place will wear off eventually, but right now it's heaven. Sunday night we will sleep there finally, and I think we've got it worked out with our apartments that we won't have to clean anything, which will be a glorious time and energy saver.

Oh crap - I left out the best part - our rent will be considerably cheaper than it is here - an apartment that isn't near anything but a few crappy neighborhoods! Yay!

The only downside is that for the next year it will take me about 40-45 minutes to get to work instead of 20-25. That is going to be a real bitch in the winter, but I'll deal.

Carson Daly

I have been ignoring the TV, but I looked up and saw the Carson Daly Show on.

At first, I thought I'd lost my mind, because I thought I remembered a time that I found him mildly attractive. Don't get me wrong, I always thought he was annoying - but that is nothing a mute button can't fix. But then again...he's not really worth watching TV on mute either. But this guy? This guy on my TV right now? HELL to the NO. I was immediately disgusted with myself and wondered if this was more solid proof that before Corey I had truly horrible, mind-boggling taste in men.

This inspired a google image search in hopes of some less recent pics. Guess what? I'm not crazy. He really DOES look scary now.

Granted...he's nothing special in the "before" pic...but WHOA.

In other news...you know LOLcats/I Can Has Cheezburger?

I found LOLjesus!

RSVPing is HARD.

Check a box. Drop in mailbox. It's already addressed and stamped.

I gave an rsvp online option too...but even that is more difficult and time consuming than the postcard.

On this day in 1994

Yesterday, anyway. I forgot to publish this. Whoops.

Happy Birthday A!

My oldest little sister is 14 years old today. I can't believe how old this makes me feel fast time goes by. I was in high school when she was born, and now she is starting high school.

High school.

Scary.

No, high school itself isn't scary - but the things I was doing at 14 - oh man. THAT is scary. Things that make 29 year old me blush in shame. She is a much better kid than I was, THANK GOD. Her situation is also a lot different than mine. When I was 14 years old, we lived in Portland, Oregon. I was a hard-core latch-key kid. Our mom was only 31 years old when I was 14. Our income was much lower (though not bad), our neighborhood much different, society much different.

Hell, I didn't even know what the INTERNET was when I was 14.

Kurt Cobain was still alive.

So were flannel shirts.

My life at 14 was not bad by any means. I don't mean anything I said in a negative way - it was just a very different world than hers is now. I would not trade it for anything, and I definitely would not want to be a teenager today. NO. WAY.

I'm very proud of her.

Open letter to my car

Yes. My car.

Dear My Car,

I hate you. I rescued you from that weird dealership in Fresno when I didn't even need to. I will never understand how or why I chose to get rid of a VW Cabrio for you. Actually I do remember, but in hindsight I realize that my logic was ridiculously flawed.

It doesn't make sense to me why the hell you suddenly won't allow me to roll down any of my windows but the driver's side window. I was willing to overlook the way the volume in you sometimes goes up (or nowhere) when I'm trying to turn it down and vice versa. And the way that you will only play some of my CD's and only when you feel like it. I'm not a fan of the paint that seems to be randomly wearing off of the hood. WTF is that about? It's making you look much trashier than you actually are.

Is this because I haven't washed you since sometime in the early spring of 2007? Just wondering.

GFY, car.

Love,

J.

I love Milwaukee

I've lived a lot of places, but I don't think I want to live anywhere else but here ever again.

Today as I was driving down THE 43 (Hi Jess!) on my way to a baby shower and I looked to my left towards the city and the Hoan Bridge and the lake and got this weird, almost overwhelming feeling of giddyness and love for my new home city. I belong here.

How's that for some sappy cheesiness?

Also, Happy 23rd Anniversary to my mom and step-dad!
